How to Use Facebook for a Business

Mike Volpe and Ellie Mirman of HubSpot have created a useful presentation for businesses who are wondering how to get started on Facebook.  The powerpoint version of the presentation is here.  I’m also interested in the fact that Mike and Ellie represent what HubSpot calls their Inbound Marketing Department.  Inbound Marketing refers to the confluence between search and social media around all the ways that your company gets found by .  As more companies look to grow their social media teams it may be useful for some to look at the distinction that HubSpot makes between outbound and inbound marketing.

This presentation is for the beginner facebook marketers among us.  It explains how and why to set up a business page, what to populate it with, and how to promote it.  It also shows how to track the metrics that it generates so that you can demonstrate the ROI to your company.  One word of advice…do not launch a business page unless you and your organization are prepared to support and sustain the effort.  For those who commit to creating quality content, engaging in dialogue, and promoting their facebook presence, the opportunities are certainly there.  For those seeking a leads or customers with a minimum of effort, facebook will not be for you.  I could probably say the same thing about any social media or Inbound Marketing tactic.
