Is there a social network out there for your niche…quite possibly.

Though a certain social network whose name starts with “f” and rhymes with “racebrook” is the one on everyone’s mind these days, do not overlook the possibility that there may be a niche social network out there that could be just the thing for you.  Wikipedia has a great jumping off point for those looking to get an overview of the variety of social networks lurking about on the surface of Planet Social Media.  Click here to check it out.

However it is not nearly complete.  With services such as Ning, anyone with the right idea and some stick-to-it-iveness can create a social network on any topic they want.  Additionally, in the B2B world, those seeking to be at the hubs of an industry are launching niche industry networks.  For instance, in the corporate meeting and event world there is a community called i-Meet that is the Linkedin of the meeting planning an corporate hospitality world.  Membership is free and it is open to suppliers as well as meeting planners so it is a true social networking marketplace.

If you are considering your company’s entry into the social network arena, don’t stop at LinkedIn or Facebook.  Your options may be greater than you think.
